Four Latino Entrepreneurs Making Waves in South America

There is a write-up on Techloy about 4 Latinos making waves in the Tech sector in South America. These are Alex Charfen, founder of Charfen Institute; Matias de Tezanos, founder of Vantage Media; Armando Montelongo, founder of The Armando Montelongo Company; and Marc Barros, founder of Moment.

You can read the full article here

As usual, some comments on this article are interesting. In fact all the comments on the article (yep, all two of them)  are interesting. See them below:

So my question is: why didn't Techloy delete these useless and uncalled for adverts? These are spam! Does it mean they don't have anyone moderating some of these comments. If spam are allowed, how do you encourage serious commenters then?

Techloy, please wake up!

Female UAE Bomber Pilot Disowned by family

I read that the family of the female UAE bomber pilot has disowned her for taking part in the bombing of ISIS. See part of their statement below.
We the Mansouri family in the United Arab Emirates hereby publicly declare that we disown the so-called Mariam Al Mansouri as well as anyone taking part in the brutal international aggression against the brotherly Syrian people, starting with our ingrate daughter Mariam Al Mansouri.
You can read the full statement here

As is my style, I visited Nairaland forum to see how people are reacting to this news. See some comments below

This was really funny!

This my guy didn't bother to read the news. He's a pictures guy. Come to think of it, he has a good point. In fact see more pictures of this courageous pilot after the cut.....

Unbelievable! Air-conditioned Pedestrian Bridge in Port Harcourt

As is my style, I was just browsing through Nairaland, when I saw a post that the NDDC built an air-conditioned pedestrian bridge across Aba Road, in Port Harcourt. The bridge is supposed to link pedestrians crossing from one side of the road to the NDDC's offices. The NDDC office is the multi-storeyed building to the left.

My first reaction was wtf!!!! But I then realized that this was likely part of a larger scheme to AC the whole of Aba Road, and then possibly the whole of Port Harcourt city. I like this initiative. This is dividend of democracy.

Anyone remember the giant TV screens that were placed at a major roundabout in Warri? In spite of the traffic at that roundabout whenever there is a premiership match, I still commend that concept.

You can't solve a problem until you identify and fully understand the problem. For now, we've fully solved two of our identified problems. Nigeria is moving! I have talked my own.

Yvonne Okoro vs. Yvonne Nelson

When Laila asked readers of her blog to choose whose looks they preferred between Yvonne Nelson's and Yvonne Okoro's when the both appeared at the movie premiere of Lydia Forson's movie ‘Letter from Adam’  in Ghana, we, of course, got some very interesting comments......

And this guy below replied Mr. Austin...

And another invisible comment...

Robinhood, the zero-commission Stock Trading App

For some of you tech-savy guys, there is a new app in the market that offers to make your stock-market investing easy. The app is Robinhood. And did I mention that it is at zero-commission? Yep, it is. You pay absolutely nothing to use the app. You can read more about it here

I don't know how they intend making money, though, but that does not concern me. My interest is in  what some users say about the app. See some comments below.

Hmmmmm......if investing on Wall Street is gambling, I wonder what he would call investing in Nigeria's Stock Exchange, an exchange where company fundamentals are very irrelevant.

The New iPhone 6 Screen Bends, and not by Design

If you are an iPhone lover, you're probably very excited about the recent launch of the new range of iPhones, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. Not to be a harbinger of bad news, but I heard the screen bends when put in the front pocket. I read it here. If front pocket storage can bend the phone, I wonder what back pocket storage can do to it. Please don't test the effect of back pocket storage at home to avoid stories that touch, especially if you spent hours in the queue to obtain your iPhone.

See some users' comments below:

His last point really made me crack up. I couldn't stop laughing. Are we sure he's not a Samsung employee, or even the CEO?

Two Nairalanders Wed

A couple recently shared their wedding pics on Nairaland. They claimed they met on Nairaland. Of course, there were lots of congratulatory messages and marriage advice. Out of all of comments, one really stood out (to me o!)

This is true advice: marriage should be about staying married. I recall hearing a similar advice in the movie, Baggage Claim. So to all of you married, newly married, about to be married, not yet ready to be married, etc, always remember that marriage is about staying married!

On US Demand for Probe of Ihejirika's "Billions"

In a recent post on Nairaland, it was stated that the US wants the FG to probe the sudden wealth (serious wealth o!) of former Army Chief, General Azubuike Iherijika, which runs into billions of Naira. Some comments caught my eye, and is my usual style, I'll present one of such.

Sadly, I think that is the impression the Presido gives... that he's just concerned about his re-election. I hope I'm wrong.

"English Grammar For Dummies" on Amazon

On one of those rare occasions that my laziness subsides, I visited Amazon to check out some books. The book above caught my attention and in trying to see how good and useful the book is, I decided to read the reviews.  After reading the comment below left by a reviewer, please don't ask me if I finally bought the book.

I no fit laugh!!!

Emma Watson's Speech on Feminism

Model and actress, Emma Watson , who was recently appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women gave a speech in Uruguay on the need for women to stop associating feminism with man-hating. Now, if you don't know Emma Watson, you are lazier than Lazy man! On her speech, though, I totally agree with her!

On Celebitchy.com, one commenter couldn't have responded better to some insinuations that her speech was a PR move. See what he said below:

I think I agree with him. These days, what we see celebrities doing is exposing body parts.

Blog Review: Auspiciousdeb.blogspot.com

You remember that commenter on Linda Ikeji blog that instead of leaving a comment to a post, just left a link to her blog? I wrote about it here. I promised I was gonna take a look at that her blog, www.auspiciousdeb.blogspot.com.

My initial expectation was that I'll see a Linda Ikeji wannabe, but amazingly, I did not. The blog, apparently owned by Odeniran Deborah Olamide is quite interesting and unique. I enjoin you to visit. The only problem I have with the blog is the formatting. She should format it better to make reading easier. But once you shake off the formatting and really get to reading her write-ups, you'll love it.

And yep, I told her my thoughts through a comment  I left on one of her posts. See what I wrote below:

Enjoy!

Dog Show in Ogbomosho?

Yep, that's right! A dog show was recently held in Ogbomosho.

That was my initial reaction when I read it on Nairaland. I was like....a dog show held where? I thought it was only me that would react that way, but one commenter on Nairaland expressed his surprise diplomatically (when I grow up, I would like to be diplomatic.) see his comment below

You can check Nairaland for all the pics and gists.

So my question now is: can a dog show hold in Calabar?

Linda Ikeji Turns 34!

A few days ago, September 19th to be precise, popular Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji turned 34. So I join her numerous fans in wishing her a very happy 34th anniversary.

This, of course, cannot be complete if we do not show some comments from her blog.

You mean by commenting on a post on her blog, you are addressing her one-on-one?  Hmmmm......

Even you, personal person Bonario? na only words fail you? I be dey expect vaseline to fail you too o!

Happy Birthday, Linda!

Re: Russian Man Hangs Self

It was all over the news a few days ago when a Russian man allegedly (I kinda like this word) killed himself. That was not the shocking part. The shocking part was that the guy streamed his suicide live on Skype, and lots of people watched yet none (or maybe 1 or 2 persons) tried to stop him.

As usual, I'll present some users reactions from Linda Ikeji Blog:

I also shared their anger. Then I stumbled across the comment below which got me thinking.

If you look at it very well, she's got a point. 1 point, 3 points, 5 points, I do not know; but she's got at least a point.

Her comment got me thinking about what I would have done if I were one of those watching the feed live. Maybe call the police? Hmmmmm.......... Below is what I think would have happened if I called the police

  • I call police telling them them some guy in Russia wants to kill himself and he's broadcasting it on Skype
  • police will most likely dismiss me as some lunatic. In the off chance that they believe me, they will pick me up for questioning/interrogation (more like t........)
  • after the questioning, I'll confess to being the Russian, and from there, my case go tie wrapper
  • your guess on what will happen after that is as good as mine.
So looking at it very closely, there is probably very little anyone watching the suicide from Nigeria could have done to stop it. But why person go spend him time and MB to watch suicide when  e fit use that time look pictures of fine fine things (if you say babes, na you sabi) for Facebook?

I tire! This life sef!

Luxury Refrigerator For Real?

I've just heard that Thermocool has a new refrigerator in market, and it's classified as a luxury refrigerator. This is for real? There is a luxury refrigerator? Hmmmmmmmmm......... I'm just thinking of additional functionality it might have for it to be classified as luxury. Sorry, I can't think of any. But you can check out their website or outlets and let me know. If I wasn't so lazy, I would've found out if other appliances companies like LG, Samsung, etc also have luxury fridges.

The way the word "luxury" is being attached to things in Naija makes me wonder. Very soon, we'll have luxury power........oh, wait, wait, wait! we have that already in Nigeria, and it's called generators. The non-luxury power is PHCN or whatever name the DISCO in your area goes by now.

Luxury Certified Lazy Man.

T.B. Joshua and N50K Journalists' Fuel Money

Saw a post with the above headline on Linda Ikeji blog. It is about a journalist alleging that T.B. Joshua bribes journalists with N50,000 each, calling it money for fuel. To get the full story, pls visit Linda Ikeji blog.

As usual, my own is to present funny comments from posts. Here are a few:

This guy is really vexing!!!!! How dare this journalist guy say such a trash?? I feel this guy's annoyance, but not feeling it well well.

This one got me thinking. Hmmmmmm..............Oya Linda, answer!

And then this one below cracked me up:

Yep, that was her response!! Her blog is her response to all that is being said. How did Linda even approve this? Let me visit the blog and see what she got.

Nigerians No Go Kill me With Laugh!!!!!!!!

Above is a snapshot of someone on Nairaland complaining about the new layout of GTBank's Internet Banking platform. This on its own is not funny. What is funny are responses of some users. See the responses after the cut

Joining APC Not the Solution....Lamido

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

I hear the Jigawa State Governor said he didn't join the APC because doing so was not a solution to Nigeria's problems.

So what will this new group of former G7 members who refused to join the APC be called? G7-2? hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

2015 elections will be very interesting. Lots of things already unfolding. If I were you, I'll book a 'watching' slot. Thank God they are not selling tickets for one to be a spectator. Even if they were selling, I would advise you buy one.

When Will We Nigerians Learn?

I was reading a post on Nairaland where someone was contemplating suing First Bank for denying him a business loan.

My question is: when will we learn that banks will say anything just to have you open an account with them?? They can even promise you a wife, husband, house, etc just to get you to open that account. Please do not fall for all those their cheap scams.
